The building that is now home to FieldHouse Jones was originally constructed and operated by the Borden Condensed Milk Company as a dairy warehouse a century ago. For the better part of the 20th century, Borden dominated the exciting world of dairy production and distribution. However, by the ‘90s, a variety of economic changes and corporate restructuring resulted in Borden abandoning this building, and relocating operations to greener pastures. The structure remained vacant for almost two decades before a spry, upstart, hotel company came along and decided to turn it into a place where travelers could enjoy a unique hospitality experience. Obviously, a fair amount of work had to go into getting the place to where it is today. We had to pump water out of the flooded basement, replace the sagging roof, and don’t even get us started on that stubborn lingering milk smell. While the building has undergone many changes, we tried to preserve as many original details as possible, like the gritty cement beams and classic BORDEN sign on the north facade. Rather than cover up the peculiarities, we decided to let them be, in hopes of honoring the history of the building. As Vladimir Horowitz once said, 'perfection is in the imperfections.' Starting with a big cavernous building also gave us the opportunity to design rooms with unconventional and exciting room arrangements that one will not find anywhere else. The Royal Queen with Side Bunk, for example, features a queen bed positioned below an elevated platform that supports two lofted twin beds. Our Corner Studio Loft Apartment houses three full-size beds betwixt a custom crafted elevated sleeping nook. For the less adventurous sleepers, we have conventional Full, Queen, and Double Full rooms. And all rooms included custom forged beds, tailored mattresses, hand-crafted tile, wide-plank oak flooring, heritage leather benches, ensuite bathrooms and original curated art. As far as location, FieldHouse Jones is located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. Geographically speaking, it’s the area just north of the Chicago River, hence the name. It’s home to most of Chicago’s heavy hitters like Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, the John Hancock Building, Merchandise Mart, and the Museum of Contemporary Art to name a few. Anyone that has come to Chicago to see its main tourist attractions has definitely come through this part of town. But don’t let the high concentration of tourist destinations fool you. With an incredible art scene, boisterous nightlife, and some of the most accoladed restaurants, River North has plenty of appeal for tourists and locals alike. For getting around, we’re about two blocks from the Chicago stop of the Brown Line. It goes from the Loop to Albany Park. It’s your go-to train to for getting you downtown fast. Additionally, the Red Line is about four blocks away and basically runs up and down the coast of Lake Michigan stopping at many of the city's most visited locations like Wrigley Field, Chinatown, and whatever the White Sox are currently calling their stadium.
